Nano Banana watermarks: what's on your images, and what turns off

By GetStepSnap · Checked against Google's pages and our own files on October 8, 2026

A Nano Banana image can carry three kinds of marks: an invisible SynthID watermark, Content Credentials in the file's metadata, and, in the Gemini app, a visible mark. Only the visible one has an off switch.

1. SynthID, the invisible watermark

Google's developer docs say every image its Nano Banana models make includes a SynthID watermark, and its Gemini Apps help says the same for everything made or edited in the app. You can't see it, and no setting turns it off. Google explains how to check an image in Verify AI-generated images, videos, and audio.

2. Content Credentials in the file

Google says Gemini Apps add Content Credentials (C2PA) metadata about where an image came from. We checked four PNG files made through the API on October 8: each had a C2PA block and a "Made with Google AI" credit in its metadata.

3. The visible watermark in the Gemini app

Google's help page Manage watermark settings in Gemini Apps describes a Media Watermark setting that controls the visible mark on images, videos and music you make in Gemini Apps:

  1. On your computer, go to gemini.google.com.
  2. At the bottom left, click Settings, then Media Watermark.
  3. Turn the setting on or off.

In India, South Korea and Vietnam, Google says only AI Ultra subscribers see the setting; everyone else there gets the visible mark. The switch only covers Gemini Apps, and it doesn't touch SynthID or Content Credentials.

What's on images from GetStepSnap

We run Nano Banana 2.1 through an API provider and give you the file as it comes back. We checked the corners of four of our original files for a visible mark and found none:

Bottom-right (top row) and bottom-left (bottom row) corners of four of our 1K results.

They still carry SynthID and the Content Credentials described above. We don't remove watermarks or metadata, and we don't offer a tool that does.

Questions

Does Nano Banana add a watermark?

Yes, an invisible one. Google says every image its Nano Banana models make includes a SynthID watermark. The Gemini app can also put a visible mark on images, which its Media Watermark setting controls.

How do I turn off the visible watermark in Gemini?

On gemini.google.com, click Settings at the bottom left, then Media Watermark, and switch it off. Google says that in India, South Korea and Vietnam only AI Ultra subscribers see this setting (checked October 8, 2026).

Can I remove the SynthID watermark?

Not with any setting: Google says the Media Watermark switch doesn't affect SynthID or Content Credentials. We don't offer a watermark remover.

Do images from GetStepSnap have a watermark?

No visible one. Like every Nano Banana image they carry Google's invisible SynthID, and the PNG files we checked include Content Credentials and a "Made with Google AI" credit in their metadata.
