AI hairstyle changer: Nano Banana prompts to try a new haircut or hair color on your photo
By GetStepSnap · Tested October 8, 2026
Before you cut off ten inches or go platinum, see it on your own face. Attach a recent photo and Nano Banana 2.1 changes only the hair: one new cut, or four cuts or colors side by side so you can compare.
Every result below is the first one we got at 1K, resized and nothing else. The starting photos were made with the model.

Four haircuts in one picture
Use the woman in this photo and keep her face exactly the same in every panel. A 2-by-2 grid of four photos of her trying different haircuts, with the same light and background: top left a chin-length bob, top right a pixie cut, bottom left long layers with curtain bangs, bottom right a shoulder-length shag. Label each panel at the bottom in small white letters: "Bob", "Pixie", "Long layers", "Shag". Realistic hair texture, like salon try-on photos.
Four haircuts, all four labels spelled right, and the same face in every panel.

Four hair colors in one picture
Use the woman in this photo and keep her face and haircut exactly the same in every panel. A 2-by-2 grid of four photos of her with different hair colors, with the same light and background: top left copper red, top right platinum blonde, bottom left chocolate brown, bottom right pastel pink. Label each panel at the bottom in small white letters: "Copper", "Platinum", "Chocolate", "Pastel pink". Realistic salon color with natural shine.
Four colors with the labels spelled right. The cut stays close, though the copper one came out a little wavier.

Four men's haircuts
Use the man in this photo and keep his face exactly the same in every panel. A 2-by-2 grid of four photos of him with different haircuts, with the same light and background: top left a buzz cut, top right a textured crop with a low fade, bottom left a slicked-back undercut, bottom right medium-length wavy hair. Label each panel at the bottom in small white letters: "Buzz cut", "Textured crop", "Slick back", "Wavy". Realistic, like barbershop photos.
Buzz cut, textured crop, slick back and waves, labels spelled right, the same face throughout.

French bob with bangs
Use the woman in this photo and keep her face, expression, clothes and background exactly the same. Change only her hair: a chin-length French bob with soft bangs that graze her eyebrows, in her natural dark brown color. It should look like a real haircut, with natural texture and a few flyaways.
Bangs and a bob, with the cafe, the hoodie and the coffee unchanged. It came out a little longer and messier than a classic chin-length bob.

Honey-blonde balayage waves
Use the woman in this photo and keep her face, expression, clothes and background exactly the same. Change only her hair: long honey-blonde balayage in loose beach waves, darker at the roots and lighter toward the ends, falling past her shoulders. Realistic hair with natural shine.
Darker roots fading to honey blonde, in loose waves past the shoulders. Everything else in the photo is unchanged.

Men's wavy perm
Use the man in this photo and keep his face, expression, clothes and background exactly the same. Change only his hair: a soft wavy perm with a two-block cut, short on the sides with loose waves on top falling over his forehead, in his natural black color. It should look like a real salon perm.
Short sides and soft waves falling over his forehead. The street and the T-shirt are unchanged.
Tips
- Say what must stay the same. Our single-style prompts list the face, expression, clothes and background, and in all three only the hair changed.
- Name the cut, the length and the color. "Short on the sides with loose waves on top" gets you closer than "a perm".
- Compare in a grid. Four styles in one picture, each label in quotes, makes the choice easier than four separate tries.
- Check the length. Our chin-length bob came out a little longer, so look closely before you take it to the salon.
What it costs
On GetStepSnap your first 1K image is free. After that a picture takes 1 credit at 1K or 2K, and 100 credits cost $9.90 (plus local tax where it applies), about $0.10 each, with no subscription. A grid of four styles is one picture, so it also takes 1 credit at 1K. Ours took 33 to 49 seconds each. With your new look, try an AI headshot or a full AI photoshoot.
Questions
How do I try a new hairstyle on my photo with AI?
Attach a photo where your face and hair are easy to see, start with "Use the woman in this photo and keep her face, expression, clothes and background exactly the same. Change only her hair:" (or the man), then describe the cut, the length, the bangs and the color.
Can I compare several haircuts or colors at once?
Yes. Ask for a 2-by-2 grid with the same light and background, name one style per panel and put each label in quotes. All twelve labels in our three grids came out spelled right.
Will it look like a real haircut?
Ours look like real hair at phone size, but it's still a picture, not a promise from your stylist. Use it as a reference to show at the salon.
Is it free?
