AI Halloween costume from your photo: Nano Banana prompts for women, men and pets

By GetStepSnap · Tested October 8, 2026

See yourself in the costume before you buy it, or skip buying one at all. Attach a selfie or a photo of your pet, paste one of these prompts, and Nano Banana 2.1 puts you, or your pet, in the costume and builds the scene around it: the forest, the party, the porch.

We tested six, on photos made with the model, so no real person or pet appears here. Five are the first result we got at 1K; one is a second try, and its card says why. Each image is resized and nothing else.

Halloween prompts for women

A casual cafe selfie of a woman with shoulder-length dark hair in a gray hoodie (made with the model)
Before
The woman as a witch in a black pointed hat, velvet dress and cape, holding a lantern in a misty forest with carved pumpkins and candles
After

Classic witch in a misty forest

Use the woman in this photo and keep her face exactly the same. Dress her as a classic witch for Halloween: a tall black pointed hat with a wide brim, a long black velvet dress with a high collar, a dark cape and a silver moon pendant. She stands in a misty forest at dusk holding a small glowing lantern, with carved pumpkins and candles at her feet. A natural, cinematic photo with warm candlelight and cool blue mist.

Hat, velvet dress, cape, moon pendant, lantern and pumpkins, all as asked. It's a full-length shot, so her face is small, but it looks like her.

Before
The woman in cat ears with drawn-on whiskers on a patterned couch, holding a bowl of candy at a 1990s Halloween party with jack-o'-lanterns and orange lights
After

Black cat at a 90s Halloween party

Use the woman in this photo and keep her face exactly the same. A 1990s Halloween party photo taken on a point-and-shoot film camera with direct flash: she sits on a living-room couch in a black cat costume with cat ears and a drawn-on nose and whiskers, holding a bowl of candy in plain wrappers with no brand names, with carved jack-o'-lanterns, orange string lights and paper bats behind her. Grainy film, flash glare and warm colors, like a real snapshot from 1998.

Our second try: the first bowl held candy that looked like real brands, so we added "plain wrappers with no brand names". The new wrappers still carry some made-up lettering. It also filled the room with partygoers and printed a sideways date stamp that isn't October 31.

Halloween prompts for men

A casual street snapshot of a man with short black hair in a navy t-shirt (made with the model)
Before
The man as a vampire in a black cape lined with red and a red waistcoat, beside a lit iron candelabra in a stone hallway
After

Vampire in a candlelit hallway

Use the man in this photo and keep his face exactly the same. Dress him as a classic vampire for Halloween: a black tailcoat, a red silk waistcoat, a high-collared black cape lined with deep red, and slicked-back hair. He stands in a candlelit stone hallway beside an old iron candelabra, looking into the camera with a slight smile. A moody, cinematic photo with warm candlelight against deep shadows.

His face and smile stay close to the photo, and the hair is slicked back as asked. Cape, waistcoat and candelabra came straight from the prompt.

A casual street snapshot of a man with short black hair in a navy t-shirt (made with the model)
Before
The man in neat white-and-black skeleton face paint and a black suit, with glowing carved pumpkins behind him
After

Skeleton face paint

Use the man in this photo and keep his face shape and features exactly the same. Give him Halloween skeleton face paint, neatly done like a professional makeup artist would: a white base, black eye sockets and nose, and teeth drawn along his lips. He wears a black suit over a dark shirt and stands against a dark backdrop with a few glowing carved pumpkins. A sharp studio portrait with dramatic side light.

Clean, even face paint, as if a makeup artist did it. The paint covers his nose, mouth and cheeks and his hair is styled up, so it's hard to say how much of his face was kept.

Halloween costumes for your cat or dog

A phone photo of an orange tabby cat on a sunny windowsill (made with the model)
Before
The orange tabby cat in a tiny black witch hat and purple cape, sitting on a table among carved pumpkins, a black candle and autumn leaves
After

Cat in a witch hat

Use the cat in this photo and keep it looking exactly like this cat. Put a tiny black witch hat on its head and a little purple cape around its neck. It sits on a wooden table among small carved pumpkins, a black candle and autumn leaves, in a cozy room lit by warm candlelight. A realistic photo; the cat looks calm and curious.

The same orange tabby, with a hat and cape that sit on it like real ones. Pumpkins, candle and leaves all as asked.

A phone photo of a golden retriever sitting on the grass in a park, tongue out (made with the model)
Before
The golden retriever in a hot dog costume with a line of mustard, sitting on a porch with carved pumpkins and a bowl of candy at dusk
After

Dog in a hot dog costume

Use the dog in this photo and keep it looking exactly like this dog. Dress it in a hot dog costume for Halloween: a soft bun-shaped suit with a sausage and a squiggle of yellow mustard along its back, its head poking out the front. It sits on a front porch with carved pumpkins and a bowl of candy at dusk, under warm porch lights. A realistic, funny photo.

The same golden retriever, tongue out, in a costume that looks store-bought, mustard and all.

Write your own costume prompt

Most of our prompts follow this shape. Fill in the brackets; for a pet, start with "Use the cat in this photo and keep it looking exactly like this cat."

Use the [woman / man] in this photo and keep [her / his] face exactly the same. Dress [her / him] as [a costume] for Halloween: [three or four pieces of the costume]. [Where they are, with two or three props]. [The kind of photo: cinematic, studio portrait, film snapshot].

Tips

  • Put the face line first. Each of our four prompts with a person opens by asking to keep the face exactly the same, and the results stayed close to the original faces.
  • Name three or four pieces. Our witch prompt names a pointed hat, a velvet dress, a cape and a moon pendant, and all four showed up.
  • Set the scene. Pumpkins, candles, a porch at dusk: a couple of props and the light do most of the Halloween work.
  • Ask for plain packaging. Our first party photo filled the candy bowl with wrappers that looked like real brands. We ran it again with "plain wrappers with no brand names"; the new wrappers still carry some made-up lettering.
  • Pick the shape. 3:4 fills a phone screen nicely; all six of ours are 3:4.

What it costs

On GetStepSnap your first 1K image is free. After that a costume photo takes 1 credit at 1K or 2K, and 100 credits cost $9.90 (plus local tax where it applies), about $0.10 a photo, with no subscription. Ours took 19 to 30 seconds each. Questions

Can AI put me in a Halloween costume?

Yes. Attach a clear photo of yourself, start the prompt with "Use the woman in this photo and keep her face exactly the same" (or "the man" and "his"), then describe the costume and the scene. In our four tests with people, the faces stayed close to the original photos; under the skeleton paint it's hard to tell how much of the face was kept.

Is there a free AI Halloween costume generator?

On GetStepSnap your first 1K image is free, so you can try one costume without paying. After that a costume photo takes 1 credit at 1K, and 100 credits cost $9.90 (plus local tax where it applies). No subscription.

Can I put my cat or dog in a costume?

Yes. Start with "Use the cat in this photo and keep it looking exactly like this cat" and describe the costume. Our cat got a witch hat and cape and our dog a hot dog suit, and both still looked like themselves.

Will my face be small in the picture?

In a full-length shot, yes: our witch is standing in a forest, so her face takes up little of the frame. For a closer look, ask for "a half-length portrait" or "a close-up portrait".

Can I dress up as a movie or TV character?

We only tested generic costumes, not specific film or TV characters. The prompts on this page are for designing your own costume.

What happens to the photos I upload?

We store them so the model can read them and so your results stay in your account. We don't sell them or use them for anything else. To have them deleted, email support@getstepsnap.com.
