Car color changer examples
One silver sedan, five colors and finishes, the first result we got for each at 1K. The small picture is the starting photo, made with the model with a blank plate; "Use this prompt" puts the prompt in the tool above.

Metallic midnight blue
Change only the car's paint to a metallic midnight blue, keeping the body shape, wheels, windows, reflections and the background exactly the same.
A deep blue with a metallic sparkle, and the trees still reflect in the hood. Wheels, plate and street unchanged.

Gloss red
Change only the car's paint to a glossy deep red, keeping the body shape, wheels, windows, reflections, the blank plate and the background exactly the same.
A glossy deep red that still shows the reflections. The lights, the chrome strip and the blank plate stayed put.

Matte black wrap
Change only the car's paint to a matte black wrap with no shine, keeping the body shape, wheels, windows, the blank plate and the background exactly the same.
Flat black with no reflections at all, the look of a wrap rather than paint. The chrome strip and the lights stayed as they were.

Satin pearl white
Change only the car's paint to a satin pearl white with a soft sheen, keeping the body shape, wheels, windows, the plain grille with no badge or emblem, the blank plate and the background exactly the same.
A soft white with a gentle sheen. Our first wording put a badge on the plain grille, so this one says "no badge"; it also blacked out the chrome strip.

Brushed bronze wrap
Change only the car's finish to a brushed bronze metal wrap with fine brushed lines, keeping the body shape, wheels, windows, the blank plate and the background exactly the same.
Fine brushed lines run across the hood and the doors, like a metal wrap. The bumper and the trim kept their shape.
Say the finish, not just the color
"Red" leaves the model to guess. The finish is what makes it look like paint or a wrap:
- Gloss: "glossy": deep color with the reflections kept
- Matte: "matte wrap with no shine": flat, no reflections at all
- Satin and pearl: "satin pearl white with a soft sheen": somewhere in between
- Metallic: "metallic midnight blue": fine sparkle in the paint
- Brushed metal: "brushed bronze metal wrap with fine brushed lines"
Paint or wrap? Check the real color first
A screen can't show paint exactly. The color shifts with the light, the angle and your display, and paint and wrap film in the same shade look different up close. Use the pictures to narrow it down to two or three, then look at a real sample, outdoors, at the shop before you decide.
How to change the color of a car in a photo
- Take the photo in daylight. From a front corner, with the whole car in the frame.
- Type the color and the finish. The box starts with metallic midnight blue; swap in yours.
- Keep the rest. The prompt already asks for the body, wheels, windows and background to stay the same.
- Compare a few. Each try takes 1 credit at 1K or 2K, so put three shades side by side.
Ways to use it
A car color changer online, free to try
Your first image is free when you sign in with Google, in your browser with no app to install. After that each color takes 1 credit at 1K or 2K, and 100 credits cost $9.90, paid once. It uses Google's Nano Banana 2.1.
Before you buy a car
Found the right car in the wrong color? Take a photo of it and see it in the color you'd actually pick, then ask what a respray or a wrap would cost.
Car color changer FAQ
How much does it cost to change the color of a car?
Previewing it here is free for your first image and 1 credit after that. The real job is priced by the shop: the size of the car, paint or wrap film, and the labor all change it, so get quotes from a couple of local shops.
What is the best car color changing app?
We can only speak for ours: it runs in your browser, so there's nothing to install, and it works on a photo of your own car instead of a stock model. Try a few colors on the same photo and compare.
Will the color look the same in real life?
Not exactly. Screens and light change how a color looks, so check a real paint chip or wrap sample in daylight before you decide.
Can I try a matte or chrome wrap?
Matte, satin, pearl, metallic and brushed metal all worked in our tests; say the finish in the prompt. We didn't test chrome.
Will it change the wheels or the background?
Not if you say what stays. Our prompts end with "keeping the body shape, wheels, windows and the background exactly the same", and they did. We only tested paint, not new wheels.
What happens to the photos I upload?
We store them so the model can read them and your results stay in your account, and use them for nothing else. To have them deleted, email support@getstepsnap.com.
