Kling 4.0 vs Seedance 2.5: which AI video model to use

Seedance 2.5's clip prices are fal.ai's API rate at 720p, sound included; in Dreamina you pay in plan credits. Kling shows 4.0's credits per second only to signed-in accounts and has no 4.0 API yet. Which one follows a prompt better, we haven't tested: without a Kling 4.0 API we can't run the same prompts through both.

Both make a 30-second video in one go, with sound, from a sentence, a photo or a pile of references. Seedance 2.5 got there first: ByteDance launched it on Dreamina on July 31, 2026. Kling 4.0 opened to everyone on October 15. On paper they're close, and the differences that matter are about control, references and where you can run them.

Short answer: use Kling 4.0 when you want to steer a shot moment by moment, with up to 10 keyframes, and you're happy working inside Kling's app. Use Seedance 2.5 when you have a lot of material to feed it (product shots, a storyboard, your own soundtrack) or you need an API today. Kling 4.0 doesn't have one yet.

Start from a strong first frame

Both models can animate a still, and a good still does half the work: the face, the light and the product look right before anything moves. Make yours here from a sentence or your own photo with Nano Banana 2.1, then upload it to Kling or Dreamina as the first frame. An image takes 1 credit at 1K, 2 at 2K and 3 at 4K (one more with 3 or 4 photos).

Make a first frame

Which one should you use?

  • Kling 4.0 if you think in shots. Up to 10 keyframes let you pin where a character stands at second 4 and what the camera sees at second 18, plus the first and last frame. Flash gives you quick 720p drafts of up to 20 seconds before you spend on the full model. It's also the cheaper way in: $8.80 a month after a $6.99 first month.
  • Seedance 2.5 if you think in materials. One generation takes up to 30 images, 10 videos and 10 audio clips, so a product line, a storyboard and a song fit in at once, and it lip-syncs to the audio you give it. It has an API today, extends a video twice, and Dreamina's Long Video Mode runs to three minutes. Its Intelligent Edit Mode fixes one spot at one moment without remaking the rest.
  • Either one for a single 30-second scene with sound from a prompt or a photo. Both do text to video, image to video and reference to video.

Kling's column comes from its October 15 release note and its 4.0 page, Seedance's from ByteDance's Seedance page, its launch press release and fal.ai's model page. Resolutions and shapes for Seedance 2.5 are what fal.ai offers; Dreamina may differ. Kling lists 720p, 1080p and 4K for 4.0, but its own pages still call 1080p and 4K output "coming soon".

Control: keyframes or references

This is the real split. Kling 4.0 is built around the timeline. You place keyframe images where the story turns, describe what happens in between, and Kling fills the gaps. Its references top out at 15 (images, videos, subjects and voice), which covers a character, a set and a camera move, but not a whole campaign.

Seedance 2.5 is built around the pile of stuff you already have. Fifty references in one go is a lot: every product angle, the brand's look, a storyboard, a song and the lines people say. ByteDance pitches it at ad and e-commerce teams for exactly that reason. What it doesn't list is multiple keyframes: you pin the first and last frame, and the prompt does the rest. Write long shots as a timed list (0 to 3 seconds, 3 to 8 seconds) and it spends the time where you tell it to.

Length and sound

Thirty seconds each, which is a short scene rather than a single shot. Past that, Seedance 2.5 is ahead today: it extends a clip twice, and Dreamina's Long Video Mode goes to three minutes. Kling's extension to two minutes is still marked coming soon. Both generate the sound with the picture and sync the lips. Kling adds stereo and a voice reference; Seedance takes up to 10 audio clips, so it can cut to your beat or say your script.

What they cost

In the apps, both sell monthly credits and charge them per second of video; on Kling, the length of any video you upload as a reference counts too. Kling's Standard plan is $8.80 a month for 660 credits ($6.99 the first month), and Pro is $32.56 for 3,000. Dreamina's Basic plan is $15 a month for 1,575 credits, and Standard $36 for 3,885. Kling shows 4.0's rate only once you're signed in, and Dreamina's per-second figures change with its promotions, so compare the number on your own account.

Through an API, only Seedance 2.5 is for sale, and it isn't cheap. On fal.ai it costs $0.2205 a second at 480p, $0.473 at 720p and $1.164 at 1080p, sound included. A 10-second 720p clip comes to about $4.73, a full 30 seconds at 720p to about $14.19. Kling hasn't priced a 4.0 API. Its 3.0 API runs $0.084 to $0.168 a second at 720p and 1080p, and our guess is that 4.0 won't cost less.

What we haven't tested

Picture quality. We haven't run the same prompts through both models, and we won't pretend otherwise: Kling 4.0 has no API, so we can't run it the way we test image models. When Kling opens its 4.0 API, we'll put both through the same prompts and add the clips here. Until then, the Kling 4.0 page has what's confirmed about it, and we update it the day anything changes.

Questions

Is Kling 4.0 better than Seedance 2.5?

Neither wins outright. Kling 4.0 gives you more control over a shot, with up to 10 keyframes, and Kling lists 1080p and 4K in 10-bit HDR as coming soon. Seedance 2.5 takes far more references (50 against 15), has an API today and makes longer videos on Dreamina. We haven't run the same prompts through both, because Kling 4.0 has no API to test it through.

Which is cheaper, Kling 4.0 or Seedance 2.5?

To get started, Kling: its Standard plan is $8.80 a month for 660 credits ($6.99 the first month), against $15 a month for Dreamina's Basic plan with 1,575 credits. Both charge credits per second of video. Through an API only Seedance 2.5 is available so far: $0.22 to $1.16 a second on fal.ai, depending on resolution.

Can I try Kling 4.0 or Seedance 2.5 for free?

Not that we could confirm. Kling has a free account, but its plan page lists daily free credits for paying members only. Dreamina has a free plan with some credits, and its pricing page doesn't say whether they cover Seedance 2.5.

Can I use Kling 4.0 or Seedance 2.5 through an API?

Seedance 2.5, yes: on BytePlus, ByteDance's cloud, and on fal.ai. Kling 4.0, not yet: on October 19, 2026, Kling's developer page still said "Kling 4.0 API Coming Soon".

How long can Kling 4.0 and Seedance 2.5 videos be?

Both make up to 30 seconds in one generation (Kling 4.0 Flash: 20). For longer, Seedance 2.5 can extend a video twice, and Dreamina's Long Video Mode goes up to three minutes. Kling says extending a 4.0 video to up to two minutes is coming soon.

Which one does sound better?

Both make the sound with the picture and lip-sync dialogue. Kling 4.0 adds two-channel stereo and takes a voice reference. Seedance 2.5 takes up to 10 audio clips as references, so it can follow your own music or lines. We haven't compared them on the same prompt yet.

Can I use Seedance 2.5 in the US?

Yes. Dreamina, ByteDance's AI video and image app, offered Seedance 2.5 to US visitors when we checked on October 19, 2026, on all its paid plans. Developers can use the API on fal.ai, which runs it on US servers.

Can GetStepSnap make videos?

Not yet. We run image models: Nano Banana 2.1, Nano Banana Pro, GPT Image 2.5 and GPT Image 2. You can use them to make the first frame or keyframes, then animate them in Kling or Dreamina. We plan to add Kling 4.0 when its API opens.
