Kling 4.0: release date, what's confirmed, and when you can use it
By GetStepSnap · Checked against Kling's own pages on October 8, 2026 · Updated on launch day
Not yet, for most people. Kling announced 4.0 on September 30, 2026, opened early access, and says the full model launches in October. A lighter version, Kling 4.0 Flash, has been out since September 28, but only for Ultra yearly subscribers, and only in a limited rollout.
There's no Kling 4.0 API either. As of October 8, Kling's API docs and price list stop at 3.0, and neither fal.ai nor Replicate lists 4.0. We plan to add Kling 4.0 to GetStepSnap once the API opens, and we'll update this page the same day.
The timeline so far
- September 28, 2026: Kling 4.0 Flash opens to Ultra yearly subscribers, in a limited rollout.
- September 30: Kling announces 4.0 and starts early access, with “a wider rollout coming in October.”
- Still “coming soon”: 10-bit HDR output at 1080p and 4K, and extending a video to up to 2 minutes.
- October 8: No full release yet, and no API.
What's new compared with Kling 3.0
| Kling 3.0 | Kling 4.0 | |
|---|---|---|
| Longest clip in one go | 3 to 15 seconds | Up to 30 seconds |
| Color | 8-bit SDR | 10-bit HDR at 1080p and 4K (coming soon) |
| Biggest size | 4K | 4K |
| Sound | Native audio | Two-channel stereo, better lip sync |
| Keyframes | No multiple keyframes | Up to 10 |
| References in one video | Smaller limits | Up to 15: images, videos, subjects and voice |
Length is the change you'll feel first. Fifteen seconds is a shot; thirty seconds is a short scene, with room for a line of dialogue and a reaction. Kling also says 4.0 handles fast motion better (fights, dance, sports) and can re-edit an existing clip, such as a different expression, camera angle or line, while leaving the rest of the frame alone.
Kling 4.0 Flash: the version you might already have
Flash is the faster, cheaper one. It makes clips up to 20 seconds long at up to 720p (8-bit SDR), from text, an image or Omni Reference, without start-and-end frames or keyframes. If you're on an Ultra yearly plan, sign in to Kling and check whether your account has it yet.
Is there an API, and what will it cost?
Not yet. On October 8, Kling's API documentation listed models up to 3.0, its API price list had no 4.0 row, and the Kling models on fal.ai and Replicate stopped at the 3.0 generation.
Kling hasn't published 4.0 prices. For a sense of scale, its API charges $0.112 a second for 3.0 at 1080p without sound, $0.168 with sound, and $0.42 a second at 4K. A 10-second 1080p clip with sound costs $1.68 on 3.0. Our guess, and it's only a guess: 4.0 won't cost less per second, and 30-second clips add up fast.
Can you use Kling 4.0 for free?
Not right now. The full model isn't out, Flash is limited to Ultra yearly subscribers, and Kling hasn't said whether free accounts will get 4.0 after launch.
